Why Adjust a Child? 10 Reasons
Children Benefit From Gentle Adjustments
Why adjust a child? They don’t usually have the aches & pains most of us relate to aging. But is it aging that causes those aches & pains? NO. Age only allows the injuries and ignored problems of our youth to fester and eventually catch up with us. The following reasons children should be adjusted are too easily overlooked by adults:
- Birth trauma - when was the last time someone pushed or pulled you head-first through a space not much bigger than your head? Birth is a physically stressful event (natural or c-section) for mother & child.
- Adult acrobatics - have you ever seen an adult awkwardly hold, lift, or carry a baby around? Or throw them in the air?
- Stumbles, fumbles & falls - anyone who has seen a toddler move, knows they have the coordination of a fish walking in high heels. Where did that wall come from?
- Sports injuries - walk it off? No pain, no gain? That’s not always the best advice.
- Congenital defects - it is not unusual to uncover scoliosis or some other musculoskeletal issues during a chiropractic exam that parents were unaware of prior. These structural issues often follow in families.
- Backpacks - some kids pack it like they’re going on a week’s vacation. Do you think leaning forward at a 45 degree angle with a 40 pound pack on your back adds some physical stress?
- Daredevil stunts - kids are fearless & stunts often don’t turn out as planned.
- Overweight & Sedentary - this used to be a factor contributing to aches & pains in adults only - now kids suffer too.
- Automobile accidents - the baby looks ok, so he must be. It’s best to get checked.
- Silence - kids don’t tell you everything they feel or may not even notice some issues until bigger problems develop
