What's In Your City Water?
How about a dose of meds?
Probably more than expected. A vast array of pharmaceuticals - including antibiotics, anti-convulsants, mood-stabilizers and sex hormones - have been found in the drinking water supplies of at least 41 million Americans, an Associated Press investigation shows.
When taken, many drugs pass through the body and into our water without being filtered out. Other medications may be directly flushed down the toilet to dispose of them. While water facilities regularly check for common chemicals or toxins in our water, they rarely check for pharmaceuticals and don't equipment made to remove them.
