Live From Inquiry
Listen from "I don't know."
To grow we must be willing to say, "I don't know."
When listening to others, you should set aside thoughts like... I already did that, I already figured that out, or I know all of that." Author Baptiste tells us we should listen from "I don't know" rather than "I already know." When we listen from "I don't know"- from the heart, with great interest and really engaged-we create space and experience new possibilities and growth for our lives.
When you begin to think I already know this, stop for a moment and ask yourself, "What am I not seeing that I need to see?" Have the courage to ask yourself, "What am I not seeing that is limiting me?" Also, ask yourself, "What do I need to see that is new for me?" This will allow you to discover powerful lessons that can turn breakdowns into breakthroughs.
Baptiste says humility is a key tool for our growth. We must give up on the idea that we already know everything... that we have all the answers. Each time we re-read a book, we find something that impacts us a little differently and sometimes we get a significant "aha" that we never got before. We might hear the same speech or presentation over and over again and get a little different message each time we hear it. Discovery, empowerment, and new directions begins with you having the courage to say, "I don't know" ... which opens your mind and heart to what else you can see or learn from the present situation or circumstance.
Live from inquiry... be open to new answers... listen from "I don't know."
