Easter Message...Serving & Helping Others
Change the world in front of you.
.... taken from an article in Times Record News
During the forty days preceding Easter, each of us has the opportunity to re-examine the life we live and the choices we make. We should not forget those among us who live a life of constant deprivation. We should also be aware of our own ability, large or small, to help create change in our communities.
Many of us gave up certain things for Lent.... material comforts for this period of self-imposed deprivation. However, some in our communities don’t even have the things most of us consider necessities — food, shelter, and clothing. For them, deprivation is not a choice — it is a way of life. They live without these basic necessities. There are those who will sleep outside tonight... and those who will eat nothing at all today. We must do our part to help these individuals.
Many of us have made changes in our own lives... changes like improving our diet or exercising more regularly. Important changes might involve listening more intently or showing more gratitude for the gifts we enjoy. But we can do more!
Make a commitment to do your part. Each one of us must decide what we can do to help change the world in which we live... and to help change our world, we will first have to change ourselves.
We must change the way we think and how we set our priorities. Mother Teresa was once asked for her response to the fact that she, one of the foremost humanitarians in the world, would never be able to do away with world hunger or disease.
Mother Teresa replied, “I may not be able to save the whole world, but I can help save the world Jesus puts in front of me.”
None of us can do it all, but all of us can do something. In the spirit of Easter, let’s all try to make a real difference in the world that God puts in front of us. What can you do to help your fellow man throughout the coming year?
Thank you for everything you have done, or will do, in service to others!
