Doctors of Chiropractic Help With Nutrition

Chiropractic Nutrition Education

Choose our Chiropractors in canton ohio as your nutrition experts
While some patients receive dietary advice from a dietician or nutritionist, many don't realize doctors of chiropractic are well-educated in nutrition. Since the initial development of chiropractic training programs, courses in dietetics and nutrition were included. Currently, chiropractic colleges require doctors of chiropractic to take multiple courses in nutrition along with basic science, clinical science, and other courses to earn their doctoral degree.

Doctors of chiropractic are educated in nutrition beyond the basics, learning about nutrition as it relates to disease prevention and treatment. They are trained in nutritional assessment to provide therapeutic recommendations. Dietary counseling and supplement recommendations are another tool chiropractors have to address common health problems naturally. In response to a growing concern of nutrition misinformation provided to the public, a study of chiropractic college nutrition education was performed and concluded that chiropractic curriculum is a source of quality nutrition information.

Chiropractic Nutrition Counseling & Treatment

Combining a strong foundation in nutrition with the knowledge of primary care physicians, doctors of chiropractic serve as a great source of nutritional counseling and recommendations. Many also choose to receive additional training in nutritional counseling to increase their expertise. Some doctors of chiropractic complete a masters in nutrition or a specialty certification.

With a focus on helping the body heal and be healthy naturally, doctors of chiropractic have always recognized the importance of proper nutrition. Trying to heal a sick body being fed junk food, is like trying to fix a broken care with cheap parts and fuel it with the wrong type of fuel - it doesn't work very well.

Better Health With Better Nutrition

We have seen again and again, those eating a better diet are more likely to avoid health problems, and more likely to recover from health problems that cannot be avoided. Common problems frequently respond well to an improved diet and proper nutrition. We've seen improvements in digestion, energy levels, sinus problems, aches & pains, sleep, stress, and many other issues.

These health improvements occur as quickly as dietary changes are made. Dramatic changes that eliminate processed foods in favor of real whole foods will produce results quickly. Significant changes can occur within days and usually within a couple weeks. Gradual changes in diet will also produce improvement, but it can take longer.

Common Issues With Dietary Advice

Mention the word "diet" and you'll get advice from everyone from your neighbor's mother-in-law to your sister's hairdresser's assistant.

Be careful - not all nutrition advice is created equal.

While you don't need to be a doctor to know how to eat well, it is increasingly complicated to decipher healthy foods from unhealthy foods in today's overwhelming marketplace. As a result, bad dietary advice is easy to find. Just don't believe everything you hear.
Nutritionist and dieticians often recommend low calorie low fat diets
There's more to food than fat & calories
Low Calorie Often Equals Low Quality Diet

Too much dietary advice is focused on reducing calories. When the primary focus is on calories, problems develop. We start to eat unhealthy processed foods that are low in calories, but provide no nutrition. We start eating fake foods like artificial sweeteners that are low calorie, but clearly unhealthy.

Nutrition advice should focus on improving health, not reducing calories. When you eat healthier foods, you'll naturally eat fewer calories.

5 simple good recommendations you should receive from your nutritionist, dietician, doctor, or other adviser:
  1. Avoid processed foods
  2. Avoid fake foods (artificial sweeteners, artificial fat, etc.)
  3. Avoiding foods with chemicals (colors, preservatives, flavors, etc.)
  4. Eat whole foods
  5. Eat healthy natural fats (butter, coconut oil, olive oil, flaxseed oil, fish oil, etc.) and less processed fats (canola, vegetable, corn, soy, margarine, etc.)

Good nutrition starts with common sense, and then considers current research.

Some dietary advisers have not updated their advice to reflect the latest in nutritional research. Make sure you choose a nutrition expert that can lead you to the right path that promoted long-term health.
