Avoid Sports Injuries & Improve Performance
Avoid sports injuries
Back to school also means football games, soccer games, and too often sports injuries. Our increasing interest in seeing our children excel in sports and a growing focus of the one-sport athlete is increasing the frequency and severity of sports injuries we see in the clinic. Fortunately for kids, they often bounce back well from injuries with some conservative treatment. Even better news is that some simple changes can help them not only avoid injuries, but improve their performance on the field.
1. Cross-train. We simply mean play sports or perform exercises that challenge the body in different ways. Tennis is a lot of side-to-side movement while running is a lot of forward-to-backward movement. Each works different muscles and the combination improves strength and agility more than one of them performed twice as often.
2. Eat a performance-enhancing, injury-preventing, anti-inflammation diet. College and professional athletes are just starting to recognize the benefits of better eating. Use nutrition to gain a competitive edge.
3. Address injuries early. Overlooked injuries eventually turn in to chronic problems. You can’t walk them all off. Utilize chiropractic and conservative treatment to heal from injuries quickly and avoid new ones.
4. Rest. It does a body good.
